West Ham United are interested in a move for AS Roma forward Justin Kluivert, according to an Italian outlet.

The Lowdown: Attacking priority

After securing the signings of Nayef Aguerd and Alphonse Areola, David Moyes will now be focusing on targeting other areas of the pitch, and the final third is a position which desperately needs attention.

The 23-year-old first joined the Serie A side in 2018, but he spent last season out on loan at Nice, creating a good name for himself and seemingly attracting attention from the Premier League, particularly from the London Stadium.

The Latest: West Ham keen on Kluivert

According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), it is claimed that Kluivert is ‘liked’ by West Ham, alongside suitors in France, but nobody has yet ‘managed to pay’ the €15m (£12.6m) or so which would be needed to sign him.

The source stated that, if the Irons want to secure a deal for the winger, they will need to ‘open their chequebook’ a bit more, something which GSB seem ‘happy to do’ for the right player, given the business that they’ve already completed this summer.

The Verdict: Get it done

Michail Antonio is currently the only natural striker that David Moyes has in his squad, so it’s vital that West Ham tie down a new centre-forward before the start of the new season.

Kluivert, who was praised by his former Nice boss Christophe Galtier for having great ‘technical qualities’, was in fine form for the Ligue 1 club last season, recording 12 goal contributions in 31 appearances across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

This kind of return will surely appeal to Moyes, who has been missing someone to provide competition and backup to Antonio, but the Irons will need to consider submitting a bid soon if they are serious about gaining the Dutchman’s services in time for the next campaign.
