It’s finally about to be over. Eddie Nketiah’s future at Leeds United is set to be decided one way or another within the next ten days according to The Athletic.
The likely outcome seems to be that he will be recalled as a Bristol Post journalist reported that the striker will be headed back to the Emirates in the next 48 hours, but after weeks of conflicting stories, we’re not taking that for gospel just yet.
It’s going to be a nail-biting period and the higher-ups at Elland Road are likely to be on tenterhooks. The 20-year-old being recalled will apparently force them to spring into action and get active in the transfer market. That’s if you believe a certain Phil Hay.
Although it may not seem like it, Arsenal could actually be doing the Yorkshire outfit a massive favour by deciding on Nketiah’s future sooner rather than later.
The Gunners might have been willing to string things out and wait right up until deadline day before deciding to recall the youngster, but instead, they’ve given United adequate time to find a replacement.
It’s time that is often so vitally important throughout a transfer window.
Two of Leeds’ reported targets are already being looked at by other clubs with Rhian Brewster in talks with Swansea while Nottingham Forest reportedly sit in pole position when it comes to signing Che Adams.
Fortunately, Arsenal will let Leeds know about Nketiah’s future in early January, and hopefully, the players they’re reportedly interested in will still be available.
Every day that goes by where Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani don’t know about Nketiah’s future would see United miss out on target after target so this can only be beneficial in terms of seeking a replacement.
If Nketiah is recalled, Leeds have three weeks to do all the work needed in order to find someone to replace him. Meanwhile, if he stays, they can sit back and put their feet up.
Meanwhile, Phil Hay has stated that Leeds may look to strengthen three positions in January.
