Manchester United are considering including Luke Shaw in a player-plus-cash deal for Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose in January, according to The Mirror.
What’s the story?
In an explosive interview with the Sun, Rose suggested that he was open to leaving Spurs for pastures new.
The 27-year-old, who is still nursing a knee injury, did not seal a transfer in the summer, but he may consider pushing for a move when the window reopens in January.
According to The Mirror, United have been tracking Rose for some time, and manager Jose Mourinho may be willing to include Shaw as part of a deal.
The England international has not played competitively for the Red Devils yet this season due to ankle ligament damage, but he is closing in on a return to fitness.
Injuries and a lack of form have marred Shaw’s progress at Old Trafford ever since he broke his leg in two places in 2015.
Who would this deal benefit?
Both could potentially emerge as winners if this transfer goes through in the winter.
Rose is a well-established left-back and would slot into Mourinho’s team providing he manages to rediscover his form following a lengthy injury absence.
Even though the England international is a regular starter for Mauricio Pochettino when fit, his image at the club has been tarnished somewhat due to his public criticism.
It is fair to say that some fans would like to see Rose leave, but there is a risk in bringing Shaw in as a replacement.
The negatives are that the former Southampton star has become injury prone and he was publicly accused by Mourinho of lacking commitment.
The positives, though, are that at the age of 22, Shaw has his best years ahead of him and he is already familiar with Pochettino having played under him at St Mary’s.
