The Italian bemoaned Roma's decision when speaking to s : "I'm sorry about his dismissal, Italian football is losing an important coach. Both for what he did in his career and at Roma, extraordinary, from the outside everything seems easy. The results demonstrate it. I'm also sorry for the relationship we have, I wish him good luck for the rest and also to Daniele De Rossi, who is at the beginning of his career."

As Allegri alludes to, Italy and Roma legend De Rossi takes immediate charge at the helm, with the Giallorossi languishing down in ninth in Serie A and five points from Champions League contention. The decision to appoint the ex-midfielder was reportedly already made by the time Mourinho was given his marching orders, which was done during an impromptu meeting that lasted just 25 minutes.
